Disclaimer: Failure to adequately prepare for life’s inevitable challenges is an interesting trait displayed by many humans. Most of the students at Oxbridge Academy are human. Ergo. Most students will fail to adequately prepare for a World History class challenge: The end of term exam. Defy human nature and study. Get out your notebook. Pay close attention to the Holocaust. There are a couple of camps that kept being mentioned in our studies: Auschwitz and Dachau. Spend just a moment—less that a minute—and Googlethem.  Be able to answer why the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was considered a Japanese failure (that’s the essay question—you’ll be expected to use the 5Ws and construct a multiple paragraph essay—Go to Sparknotes and see what they say about Pearl Harbor…)

If you were presented with a picture of Picasso’s Guernica, could you explain the destruction in 1937 of that small Spanish town and what that meant to the world? Do you know Hitler’s role in the production of that painting? How about Francisco Franco? If you don’t you may want to pay Mr. Google a visit. Just sayin’.

We made a Space Station and we learned new phrases

Artem is one of the enthusiastic learners in this room.

This is a language class.

Students were give hats to obscure their identities and protect their privacy. 

 The boxes were cut by the teacher with a sharp knife under the instruction and guidance of the students.

Each student had their own boxes but eventually they agreed to work together to make a space station.   It was an example of the design to have a purpose in their work.  Daniel Pink talks about Autonomy, Mastery and Purpose and these students gained in all three areas with this exercise.

Do you want to transform your classroom and school?   Get a fabulous director like Barbara Halwa (who is "hands off" and "I'm watching you" -- a perfect combination) who allowed us to destroy and use these cartons for 24 chairs delivered in 6 boxes.




The procedures here came from a delivery of boxes.  We decided to use the boxes in our class.   many of the boxes were removed after the class but we had a delightful 3 hours of class, from 9 to 12 on July 22,  a delightful day of play and learning.

When students wanted a hole cut, they needed to ask for the hole in a clear set of English phrases.   Items where displayed on the wall so that the students could practice the phrases.   this is an ACTIVE LEARNING method.   we call it  "visual and active" learning
